Katie Ledecky: Olympic Swimmer

by: Cecilia P.

Kathleen Genevieve Ledecky was born on Saint Patrick’s Day in 1997 in Washington, DC.  When she was just six years old, Katie and her older brother, Michael, joined a summer swim team.  After many years of swimming, swimming and more swimming, Katie Ledecky was accepted into the Olympics at the young age of 15.  She competed in the Olympics in 2012 and 2016 and she has won 5 Olympic gold medals and one silver.  She also competed in the World Championships in 2013, 2015, and 2017 where she won 14 gold medals and one silver.  Her best stroke is freestyle.

Katie went to college at Stanford University and is now preparing for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.  She is already the best female Olympic swimmer of all time.

The thing I have most in common with Katie Ledecky is that we are both strong Catholics.  Katie says that she is very devoted to Mary and that she prays a Hail Mary before each race.  I am really excited to see Katie swim freestyle in 2020, and hopefully win more gold medals!
